The Sovereign General Insurance Company
Donates to B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund

To mark the recent completion in Kelowna of the first home rebuilt following last September’s devastating forest fires, The Sovereign General Insurance Company has made a $10,000 charitable donation on behalf of  B.C. fire fighters.

The donation was made to Tony Burke, Executive Director of the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.  The B.C. Burn Fund is a non-profit charity dedicated to burn prevention as well as survivor support and recovery programs in British Columbia.

“We wanted to offer an appropriate form of thanks to the fire fighters who prevented a bad situation from being much worse,” said Doug Edward of The Sovereign General.  “Their bravery and determination are an example for us all. While some things can never be recovered or replaced, it is sometimes possible to recover, rebuild and move on.”

The Sovereign General insures approximately 2,000 homes in Kelowna and the surrounding area.  Last summer, 11 of the company’s clients lost their homes to the wild fires.

The Sovereign General Insurance Company writes commercial and special risk insurance through independent brokers across Canada, and also provides personal insurance products in selected areas of the country.

Doug Edward, Assistant Vice-President of The Sovereign General insurance company presents a cheque for $10,000 to Tony Burke, Executive Director of the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.  The donation was made in Coquitlam February 17, 2004 to recognize the efforts of B.C. fire fighters during last year’s wild fires in and around Kelowna.
