Having a claim can be stressful. We've provide this information on what to do in the event of a claim to help you through this time.

Claim Process

WHO TO CALL:

  • During Business Hours - Your Broker
  • For After Hours Emergencies - 1-877-268-5888

WHAT TO DO:

  • Take reasonable steps to protect your property from further damage, i.e., tow your car to safe place, close up damaged windows, etc.
  • Obtain and record all information on any event which may lead to a claim including dates, time, names, addresses (especially of witnesses), take photos if possible.
  • Do what would be wise to do, as if you didn't have insurance.
  • Notify and co-operate with proper authorities, i.e. Police, Fire Department, etc.
  • Report the incident per WHO TO CALL above.
  • If you are served with legal papers claiming something covered by your insurance, bring them to us IMMEDIATELY so we can defend you.

WHAT NOT TO DO:

  • Don't throw away or destroy any damaged property.
  • Do not admit fault to anyone else, either verbally or in writing. (Talk to us first.)

WHAT WE WILL DO:

  • We will appoint an adjuster who will be in contact with you within 24 hours of when we receive your report.
  • Your adjuster will clearly explain your insurance policy and the claims process and answer your questions.
  • The adjuster's job is to make inquiries sufficient to settle your claim, including taking a detailed report from you and possibly others and gathering documents, i.e., copies of bills, etc.
  • We will assist you in getting your claim settled promptly.
  • Once we agree with you on the final amount of your claim, we will pay as quickly as possible.

Every year since 1994, The Sovereign has provided a bursary in recognition of Superior Achievement in the Insurance and Risk Programme at the University of Calgary.

The 2006 Sovereign Award was presented to Stephanie Madgett of Calgary on September 28.
