Harlock Murray Underwriting Ltd. is an experienced
marine underwriting agency representing insurers and reinsurers
in Canada, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom.
Harlock negotiates only with licensed brokers/agents who act on
behalf of insureds.
The company, originally named Harlock Williams Lemon, was founded
in 1976 and, by the mid-eighties, had grown and developed substantially.
More importantly, the firm became well established and respected
in the maritime community, having thrived as an independent business
much longer than many of its competitors. In 1989, HWL was acquired
by The Sovereign General Insurance Company. In January 2001, Salvus
Bain (Management) Ltd. became a 50% partner with The Sovereign,
adding experienced underwriting and claims personnel to the existing
long service staff.
In September 2003, the company entered a new chapter in its life
when it purchased another Vancouver-based managing general agent,
Murray Underwriting Limited, and changed its name to Harlock Murray
Underwriting Ltd. The markets and staff of Murray Underwriting
complement those of Harlock very well, and Harlock Murray is able
to utilize the combined strengths of the two companies to enhance
service to the Marine Insurance in North America.
The goal of Harlock Murray Underwriting is to offer the most innovative
and effective insurance programs available. Classes written include
Commercial Hull and Machinery, Commercial Protection and Indemnity,
Pleasure Craft Hull and Protection and Indemnity, Primary Liabilities,
and Excess Liabilities.
